President's Note

January 3, 2007

The Bradley PTA is very excited to be working together with our students, parents, teachers, administrators, and our community.  We appreciate everyone's support.  It was great to see so many people at our two room parent breakfasts which were held in September.  Thank you to our board members, building parents, committee chairs, teacher representatives, and principals for your time and hard work already this year.  We are all looking forward to working together to bring you many fun events and programs this year.

Please support us so we may continue to offer all the services and programs to our students, teachers, parents, and community that we have in the past.  PTA membership is only $4.00 for one year.  No time committment is required.  If you would like to support PTA please send $4.00 in an envelope with your child to school.  Simply write PTA on the envelope.  Thank you in advance for your support.

National PTA Helps Mississippi Children Receive Needed Art Supplies.

In November 2005, The National PTA joined Rack Room Shoes, Mississippi PTA and local school officials to hand out school supplies to school children in Mississippi. More than 30,000 Mississippi students in Biloxi, Gulfport and Jackson received their very own art supplies kits.

The art kits were donated by Rack Room Shoes to the Mississippi Department of Education’s Hurricane Katrina recovery program. Each kit included colored pencils, colored markers, crayons, a paint brush, oil pastels, watercolor paints, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, a ruler, and more.

After distributing the kits, National PTA received letters expressing thanks.

Special Recognition

Every year the Illinois PTA gives 2 scholarships per district out to seniors going into the field of education.

The Illinois PTA has set up various ways local PTA units can fund these scholarships. A local PTA can honor individuals who have given of themselves to help children.  The money local PTA's contribute for the awards goes into a special scholarship fund to help two high school seniors in each PTA district who are entering into the education field.

This year the Bradley  PTA is proud to support the scholarship fund by recognizing  individuals who have given of their time and dedication over the years to help our children, parents, and our PTA.

REFLECTIONS
An Arts Recognition and Achievement Program For Students

National PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education, and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts program, Reflections. The Reflections Program offers students opportunities to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in four areas: literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage). In its more than 30-year history, Reflections has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to explore their artistic talents.

Each year, Reflections challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme.

The PTA Reflections committee would like to congratulate all participants in the 2005-2006 Reflections program. This year's  theme was "I Wonder Why?…"We received many great interpretations of this theme. every student who participated will receive a white participation ribbon.

Of the entries received, 4 visual arts entries advanced to the district level. Congratulations to Elizabeth Jackson, Kelsie Kahl, Dylan Schweizer and Dylan Stark.

Bradley PTA is proud to announce that Elizabeth Jackson has advanced to the state level for judging and will have her work displayed at the Illinois PTA Convention in April. Congratulations Elizabeth!

Bradley PTA is very proud of everyone who participated. Congratulations on a job well done!

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH LEGISLATION?

MY PLEDGE TO YOU

As Bradley PTA Legislative Chairperson I hope to be a voice to our legislators on behalf of our children.  I will be making regular trips to Springfield and writing many letters to let our legislators know that our kids deserve the very best.  If you would like to join me in this fight and would like updates on current issues please send your name and e-mail address to me at dawncamp@gmail.com.  Please be sure to put legislation in the subject line. Thank you in advance for your help. Together we can make a difference.

Dawn Camp

Legislative Chairperson

LEGISLATION PLATFORM OF THE ILLINOIS PTA AND THEREFORE BRADLEY ELEMENTARY PTA

  PREAMBLE

The Illinois PTA promotes and supports legislation designed to protect all children and youth, and to meet their educational and other welfare needs, in order that they may be better prepared to assume intelligently, the increasing responsibilities of citizenship.

The Illinois PTA has a continuing responsibility for all laws, which it has supported, and a continuing duty to express opposition to laws contrary to its policies. It opposes any curtailment of existing educational opportunities or public health services, and any further limitations on the total tax rates levied against property, unless other adequate sources of revenue are provided.

The Illinois PTA supports such items of the Legislation Policies of the Legislation Program of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers as have been approved by the majority vote of the delegates in the annual convention of the Illinois PTA. Legislation action of the Illinois PTA is determined at all times by previously adopted legislation policies.
